RAYE to Receive Hal David Starlight Award at 2026 Songwriters Hall of Fame Gala

RAYE may still be searching for answers in love on her playful single “Where Is My Husband!,” but in her career, recognition continues to arrive with striking consistency.

The British singer-songwriter is set to receive the prestigious Hal David Starlight Award at the 55th annual Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Dinner, taking place on June 11 at the Marriott Marquis in New York City. The honor further cements her position as one of the most influential songwriters of her generation.

Introduced in 2004, the Hal David Starlight Award recognizes gifted young songwriters whose original work is shaping the modern music landscape. Named after legendary lyricist Hal David—renowned for his iconic partnership with Burt Bacharach—the award celebrates those whose songwriting carries both emotional depth and cultural impact.

RAYE’s selection marks a notable continuation of female dominance in the category, following SZA in 2024 and Gracie Abrams in 2025, making it the longest consecutive run of women recipients since the award’s inception. She also becomes only the second English artist to receive the honor, after Ed Sheeran in 2017. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift—a former recipient in 2010—is set to be inducted into the Hall this year, marking a full-circle moment for the award’s legacy.

“RAYE is exactly the kind of songwriter Hal David would have admired,” said Nile Rodgers, chairman of the Songwriters Hall of Fame. He praised her ability to write with emotional transparency while connecting deeply with global audiences, highlighting her versatility across pop, R&B, and dance. Long before stepping fully into the spotlight as a solo artist, RAYE was already shaping contemporary music through her songwriting contributions, with credits spanning major artists including Beyoncé, Charli XCX, Ellie Goulding, and Little Mix.

Her recent chart success reflects steady upward momentum. “Where Is My Husband!” climbed to No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100, while her sophomore album This Music May Contain Hope. reached the same position on the Billboard 200—both marking her highest U.S. placements to date. In the UK, the single became her second No. 1 on the Official Singles Chart, following “Escapism” featuring 070 Shake, while the album secured her first No. 1 album in her home country.

RAYE’s accolades extend far beyond chart performance. In 2024, she made history at the BRIT Awards by winning six awards in a single year—the highest total ever achieved by an artist. Her growing list of honors also includes multiple Ivor Novello Awards, including recognition as Songwriter of the Year.

Her influence as a songwriter continues to resonate across the industry, with credits on tracks for artists such as Madison Beer, John Legend, LISA, Doja Cat, and Hailee Steinfeld, among others.

Earlier this year, she received the Recording Academy’s Harry Belafonte Best Song for Social Change Award for “Ice Cream Man.,” a deeply personal track addressing the experiences of sexual assault survivors. The song underscores her ability to merge vulnerability with social commentary, further elevating her artistic identity.

On stage, RAYE has been equally commanding. Her 51-date “THIS TOUR MAY CONTAIN NEW MUSIC” run has taken her across major arenas in Europe and the UK, including six nights at The O2 Arena. The tour continues in North America with performances at Radio City Music Hall and the Greek Theatre, before she joins Bruno Mars as a special guest on his upcoming stadium tour.

As the Hal David Starlight Award continues to spotlight the next generation of songwriting excellence, RAYE’s inclusion signals not only recognition of her present achievements but also anticipation of an even greater artistic legacy ahead.

This year’s Songwriters Hall of Fame induction class includes Taylor Swift alongside Walter Afanasieff, Terry Britten and Graham Lyle, KISS members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, Kenny Loggins, Alanis Morissette, and Christopher “Tricky” Stewart, while the Johnny Mercer Award—the organization’s highest honor—will be presented to John Fogerty.

With each milestone, RAYE’s journey continues to evolve—one defined not by fleeting chart positions, but by lasting creative impact.
