The most talked-about “group” of the past year isn’t a traditional group at all. HUNTR/X — the fictional, demon-slaying trio at the heart of Netflix’s animated blockbuster KPop Demon Hunters — has captured global attention through the voices of three distinct artists: EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and REI AMI. Despite their undeniable on-screen chemistry and musical cohesion, the trio recorded their vocals separately, meaning they had never actually met in person until the film’s premiere in June 2025.
That long-awaited first encounter was as fleeting as it was surreal. Crossing paths briefly on the Los Angeles red carpet, the moment felt less like a reunion and more like a passing introduction. EJAE recalls the exchange with a laugh — a quick greeting, a polite goodbye, and the shared hope of connecting properly in the future. Audrey echoes the sentiment, describing it as one of those rare moments where paths finally cross, only to diverge again just as quickly.
Before stepping into the world of KPop Demon Hunters, each artist had already been building a distinct and impressive musical identity. EJAE, born Kim Eun-jae, brings a wealth of industry experience shaped by her early beginnings in Seoul and her upbringing between South Korea and the United States. Entering the K-pop system at just 11 years old as a trainee under SM Entertainment, she later transitioned into songwriting, contributing to major releases for globally recognized acts including Red Velvet, TWICE, and aespa.
REI AMI, born Sarah Yeeun Lee, followed a different but equally compelling path. After moving from Seoul to the United States at age seven, she began carving out her place in the indie music scene, gaining widespread recognition in 2020 through her viral feature on Sub Urban’s “Freak,” which marked her debut on the Billboard charts. Her momentum continued with a 2021 tour alongside Tinashe, further solidifying her presence as a dynamic and genre-blending artist.
Audrey Nuna, born Audrey Chu in New Jersey, represents yet another dimension of this trio’s diversity. A self-described “theater kid,” her performance roots date back to childhood, including a standout moment singing “America the Beautiful” at the U.S. Open at just 10 years old. Launching her music career in 2018, she quickly distinguished herself through early collaborations with artists like Jack Harlow and DJ Snake, delivering tracks such as “Comic Sans” and “damn Right Pt. 2” that highlighted her unique flow and artistic confidence.
Together, EJAE, REI AMI, and Audrey Nuna form an unconventional trio whose connection was forged not through shared studio sessions, but through a collaborative vision that transcends physical presence. In an industry where group dynamics are often built on proximity and constant interaction, HUNTR/X stands as a striking example of how modern music — and storytelling — can unite artists across distances to create something that resonates on a global scale.
